$260,000 for Veteran who suffered bowel injury during hysterectomy

Rawls Law Group has settled a veteran’s medical malpractice claim for $260,000. Our client underwent a hysterectomy at the Oklahoma City VA hospital. During the surgery, she suffered a bowel perforation that went unnoticed by her medical providers until days later. The veteran suffered significant complications from this delay in identifying and repairing the bowel injury, and required multiple follow up hospitalizations and medical procedures, leaving her with significant scarring.

After the VA refused to settle the administrative tort claim, we filed suit in federal court in Oklahoma City. We provided the U.S. Attorney’s office with our experts’ reports identifying the medical negligence and before having to engage in discovery or depositions, the government agreed to settle the case for $260,000.
