Veteran’s Suicide is a Joke to VA Hospital Manager, but We Aren’t Laughing
By Rawls McNelis + Mitchell on March 11, 2015
Yesterday I read one of the most troubling articles I’ve read in a long time. It was an article posted by USA Today revealing a string of emails by a VA hospital manager JOKING about a veteran patient’s recent suicide. You can read the full article here. If the facts reported in this article are true, the issues in the VA run deeper than simply incompetence when it comes to providing medical care. Is it any wonder veterans are having difficulty obtaining the medical care they require and deserve when VA facility leadership such as this manager plainly do not care about what happens to their patients? One is forced to ask in light of this recent article, is the problem in the VA one of competence or one of conviction? Perhaps it is both. Whatever the case, we do not think there is anything humorous about this veteran’s unfortunate outcome. While the VA may think it is joke when veterans don’t get the care they need, the attorneys at RM + M aren’t laughing. Frankly, we find this sort of behavior appalling. If you or someone you know is not getting the proper care through the VA healthcare system, let us help. We pride ourselves on doing everything we can to help our veterans get the care they deserve and, if the VA fails to give appropriate care, get the compensation they deserve for injuries they suffer as a result of VA negligence. We are always available by phone or email to provide a cost-free case review. Don’t let yourself or someone you know become the next joke in some VA employee’s email – reach out to our VA and Military Medical Malpractice lawyers today.
