This story out of Milwaukee (Click Here For The Full Article) caught our eye. Addiction is a tough issue, no question about it. However, there is something very wrong when a veteran seeks treatment for drug addiction and then eleven days later dies of a heroin overdose while in-patient at a VA hospital. It might be hard to fault the VA for not curing a veteran’s addiction. After all, the success rate even at highly renowned and quite expensive institutions is far from 100%, but shouldn’t we expect the VA to keep the veteran safe from the very drug they are trying to get the patient off of? This is a sad story - and even sadder that there is nothing particularly surprising about it.
