Investigation after investigation has shed light on systemic failures and uncovered widespread cultural problems at VA hospitals all over the country.
Ultimately, the VA’s problems are failures of leadership and personnel. Fixing those problems requires difficult and uncomfortable decisions.
Instead of owning up to that fact, the VA is taking its eye off the ball once again and is instead focusing its attention on creating a new medical record system.
Blaming the medical record system for the VA’s problems means not having to identify and replace bad actors and poorly performing medical providers. It completely misses the mark. A shiny new electronic medical record system certainly will be nice. It won’t fix the VA’s problems though.
