Here's some good news. Last week, a bill to reform the VA by making it easier to discipline and fire bad actors in VA hospitals was signed into law. The bill, which had bipartisan support and moved quickly through Congress, also provides additional protections for whistleblowers who shed light on problems at the VA. In the past, such whistleblowers have been subject to retaliation by VA officials for daring to expose mismanagement and misconduct. This is a good sign for the VA. Let's hope that this is in fact "a new era of accountability, customer focus, and integrity at the department."
